Varun Grover Gets Homophobic Responses For Wearing Nail Paint; Says ‘Bizarre, Putting Color On Nails Is Considered Scandalous’
Sacred Games writer , comedian and lyricist Varun Grover took to his Instagram story and shared a picture of himself posing with his cat. While it was a absolutely normal picture, a section of social media users, mostly men, went berserk after seeing that he was wearing nail paint. Now, while women on social media were receptive to it and showered him with lovely comments, the men were in disbelief and some even had homophobic responses to it. Now, Varun Grover has replied to the reactions he received on his Instagram story and it has totally won us over!

Explaining the same, Varun Grover on his nstagram story, wrote, “So going by the responses, we need to talk about nail paint. There have been lots of lovely comments and encouragement, mostly from women. And a small but significant number of (mostly) men in disbelief.” He further added, that nail paint makes his hands look beautiful with minimum effort and he expressed his surprise as to why more people do not wear it. “Bonus: You get to smell the nail paint remover every ten days -if you are into that kinda thing. And am coming from the same world of conditioning as everyone here but now when I think about it. It feels bizarre that a simple act of putting colour on your nails can be considered so gendered and scandalous. I have had a couple of really ugly homophobic responses too about it but not sharing them here.” ALSO READ: 'Hum Kaagaz Nahi Dikhaenge,' Sacred Games Writer Varun Grover's Anthem On CAA, NRC, Goes Viral-WATCH VIDEO

In another story, he further wrote, “Most people want to know why nail paint which tells me this is one of the final frontiers of masculinity. Long hair, ear-studs, sensitivity have all been accepted by men as unisex but nail-paint is still crossing a line.”

His response is a winner!  After all, why should gendered expectations restrict men from something that can be a fun activity and make them look and feel beautiful? In fact, celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Zac Efron, Harry Styles and so many others have worn nail paints and ended the stigma attached to it.
